Somatic Experiencing is a body-based therapeutic approach that aims to resolve symptoms of acute stress and trauma that accumulate in our bodies and result in nervous system dysregulation.

It works by guiding clients to gently explore their physical sensations and reconnect with their bodies in a safe and controlled way, helping the nervous system complete its natural processing of overwhelming experiences. This includes slowly guiding clients to develop increasing tolerance for difficult bodily sensations and suppressed emotions by working at the level of the nervous system and working with body awareness, pendulation, titration, and resourcing.

Ultimately, the intention is to restore balance, resilience, and a sense of safety, enabling individuals to move beyond the lingering effects of acute stress or trauma.

To explore this, sessions may utilize the following tools:

· Move: Using Pilates and Movement for Trauma, sessions may explore shapes & sequences aimed at safely supporting the unsticking of your nervous system in the places it might be stuck.

· Talk: To understand the whole story, we’ll get curious about the felt side of the story as you talk about your experiences.

· Touch: Hands-on touch can be used to support your muscles, joints, and viscera in renegotiating how stress or trauma may be bound in your physiology. Whether or not we explore this tool is your choice — always.
